Stopping Asian Hate

After the outbreak of the Coronavirus in 2019, which began in Wuhan, China, we have seen an increase of almost 150 percent in anti-Asian racism and hate crimes towards the Asian American population (Dong, 2). Even now, after five years have passed, we continue to see this problem again and again in many parts of America. The stigma created by the Coronavirus pandemic has caused many people in America to view Asian people differently. This racism has led to an increase in attacks on the Asian American community and boycotts against Asian businesses. There is also a lack of racial awareness in American education. In Florida, anti-critical race theory bills are passed and defunding the public education system. (Curammeng, et al, 207). These kinds of issues create difficulty in raising awareness against racism. With this being said, “How does racism lead to the increase in violence towards the Asian population in post-pandemic America?” This is the question that leads my research into the causes of the increase in racism that has grown in the past few years and how to prevent and alleviate the impacts that it has made on the Asian American community.
